Introduction

The "Training and Resource Manager" is a software package originally designed specifically to aid the management of training records for members of search and rescue organisations. Version 6 has been extended to manage some team resources. It is a stand-alone application which operates under the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework for Windows XP (or later). It has been developed over many years in collaboration with the Keswick, Wasdale and Patterdale UK Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams.

Features

The application is a fixed-format database supporting the following primary features:

Management of team members, including contact details, membership status, training requirements, training history and attendance at team activities.
Management of training modules and a training syllabus for each member depending on their assigned roles within the team.
Management of equipment, including issue to members and test frequency where required.
Management of search and rescue incidents, including callout records, equipment deployed and skills exercised.
Management of training practices and sessions, including modules covered and equipment deployed.
Management of other miscellaneous events such as external courses, fund raising, etc.

These features can be used in various combinations to suit individual requirements. New features cannot be programmed by users, but can generally be added upon request.

Upgrading from Version 5

Because of the move to the .NET framework and the associated differences in file structures, TM6 will not directly read data files created by earlier versions. Instead, a separate one-off conversion utilitiy is provided. This will copy your ".tm5" files to the ".tm6" format without changing the original files. The new copies can then be opened by TM6.

The conversion utility will only read files from TM5.3. If you are using an older version of TM5 then the easiest way to upgrade is to e-mail the data files to me, and I will return the ".tm6" copies.

Changes in Version 6.0.8

A couple of bugs were reported by users and have been fixed. I also found a few other features that weren't quite working as intended.

There is one new command, Copy to Spreadsheet, that enables reports to be transferred directly to your default spreadsheet application.

Installation

Please note, the application requires the .NET framework 2.0 (or later) to run, which in turn requires Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later. The .NET framework can be downloaded without charge from Microsoft's website.

The application is free. It is issued without charge and there are no restrictions on copying. You can download the latest version by clicking on the link below. This is an installation program which, when run, will copy the main application, file conversion utility, and on-line help system to your computer.
