| United Reformed Church Organ, Whitehaven |
This fine instrument was built by Harrison & Harrison in 1906. The specification was drawn up by the famous Edinburgh blind organist/composer Alfred Hollins, together with the St Bees-based Lt Col George Dixon. It is recorded that this church was actually where Hollins and Arthur Harrison first met. Each of the stops on the organ are beautifully voiced, while the dark chocolate roar of full organ is quite magnificent. Restoration work was carried out in 1998. Ideally situated in a tall case at the front of the church, the organ remains as something of a miniature musical masterpiece - a versatile instrument from which a huge range of colour and dynamic can be obtained from only 18 stops.
