The next event is a visit to the organs of Grasmere and Rydal on Saturday 21st November. The timetable for the day will be as follows:
2.00 p.m. St. Oswald's Church, Grasmere
3.00 p.m. St. Mary's Church,
Rydal
3.45 p.m. Green Garth, Pye Lane, Grasmere (by kind invitation of Dr.
Joan Acheson)
The organ at Grasmere Parish Church was built by J. J. Binns in 1920, and subsequently enlarged by Wilkinson in 1953 and J. W. Walker in 1985. The Rydal organ was built by Muir Wood & Co. of Edinburgh in 1807, originally for a private residence, and restored by Nicholson in 1980. Dr. Acheson owns a Walker organ dating from 1993.
At Grasmere, the organ will be demonstrated by Andrew Seivewright (Master of the Music Emeritus, Carlisle Cathedral), and at Rydal Ian Hare will play briefly. You are welcome to prepare a suitable piece to play at either church, bearing in mind that short, quiet pieces can be equally effective. Cups of tea will be available at Green Garth. In accordance with the membership card, there will be a charge of £5 for members and £6 for participating non-members, other guests being free of charge.
Please let Ian Hare know if you like to attend.
